Porto Santo concludes 2026 Festival Colombo historical celebrations

The 2026 edition of the Festival Colombo has concluded in Porto Santo, featuring four days of historical reenactments, music, and cultural activities inspired by the Age of Discovery. Held in Vila Baleira, the event transformed the town into a 15th-century setting with a Renaissance market, street theater, circus arts, and medieval-inspired dances.

While heavy swells prevented the replica ship Santa Maria from reaching the island, the festival successfully adapted its programming to maintain the historical atmosphere. The event involved over 400 participants and included approximately 58 performances, such as the musical theater production ‘Sete Mares’ and various concerts.

Bárbara Spínola, the Regional Director of Tourism, expressed high satisfaction with the edition, noting strong participation from locals, residents of Madeira, and international visitors. She highlighted the significant community involvement, specifically thanking the Professor Dr. Francisco Freitas Branco Secondary School and the Avesso Association for their contributions to the festival's success.
