Porto Seguro Praia Resort under investigation for gastrointestinal outbreak

Health authorities in Porto Seguro, Bahia, are investigating a reported gastrointestinal outbreak at the Porto Seguro Praia Resort. Sanitary surveillance officials have inspected the facility and collected food samples for analysis to determine the cause of the illness.

Reports from guests indicate symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. While the resort reported that 16 guests received medical attention, some guests have claimed much higher numbers, with one individual reporting 63 symptomatic people among their group and another alleging up to 150 people fell ill between Thursday and Saturday.

The resort stated it follows strict food safety protocols and is cooperating with authorities. Management noted that it is currently impossible to establish a direct link between the symptoms and the food consumed at the all-inclusive establishment. The hotel has implemented additional preventive measures and continues to assist guests while awaiting laboratory results.
