Porto Velho expands free playground network across city

The capital of Rondônia, Porto Velho, has installed numerous playgrounds in public squares and parks, including Praça Arigolândia, Praça Francisco Holanda, Parque Circuito and districts such as Nazaré, Calama and Nova Mutum. The facilities offer slides, swings and other equipment that encourage outdoor play, motor‑skill development and social interaction for children.

Parents report the spaces foster family bonding; Edilson Silva said, “Ver meu filho feliz, correndo e descobrindo coisas novas não tem preço.” The president of the urban development agency Emdur, Bruno Holanda, highlighted that the project aims to improve quality of life and announced plans for further installations and revitalisations in more neighbourhoods.

The initiative provides free, safe recreation for children, promotes community use of urban areas and supports early childhood development through active play.
