Porto Velho Hosts National Tourism Secretary, Showcases Heritage, Sport Fishing

On Thursday, August 23, the Brazilian Secretary of Tourism, Augusto Lira da Rocha, visited Porto Velho. The agenda highlighted the city's historic assets, including the Memorial Rondon, Praça das Três Caixas D'Água, the Cemitério das Locomotivas, and the Candelária district, and emphasized the potential of sport fishing.

During the ceremony at the Madeira‑Mamoré Railway Complex, Lira received the Mário de Andrade award and the city presented the manual of sport fishing, a new tourist map, visual identity for Porto Velho as the capital of sport fishing, and a partnership agreement with Sebrae for a municipal tourism plan. Local tourism officials said the visit marks a historic moment for consolidating Porto Velho as a leading nature‑tourism destination in Brazil's North region.
