Porto Velho implements environmental and animal welfare initiatives

The Porto Velho municipal government has launched several programs focused on environmental education and animal welfare. Through the Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development (Sema), students from EMEIEF Belezas do Buriti participated in an educational field trip to the Porto Velho Natural Park. The initiative aims to connect classroom learning with practical experiences in the Amazonian biodiversity to encourage conservation habits.

Simultaneously, the city is expanding animal protection efforts via the Animal Protection Coordination (CPA). The 'Merenda Pet' project, which currently operates a feeding station at Residencial Morar Melhor, plans to install 50 additional feeding points across the city in partnership with local volunteers.

To support urban wildlife and community animals, the administration has installed specialized PET waste bins in several public spaces, including Parque da Cidade and Parque Natural. Additionally, a new shelter for community cats has been established at Skate Parque, with plans to extend similar protections to Parque Circuito and Parque da Cidade.
