Porto Velho implements nighttime medical service for low-complexity urgencies

The Corujão da Saúde service in Porto Velho provides nighttime support for low-complexity medical urgencies. Managed by the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semusa), the program assists patients with non-severe issues such as headaches, sore throats, mild flu symptoms, vomiting, diarrhea without dehydration, minor injuries, and light allergic reactions.

Operating from 6:00 PM to midnight, Monday through Friday, including holidays, the service has averaged between 70 and 90 consultations per night since its launch in February 2025. New patients can enter the units until 11:30 PM. The initiative aims to alleviate pressure on high-complexity emergency units (UPAs) by directing patients to the appropriate level of care.

While the service is available to all residents of Porto Velho, it does not replace routine family health unit consultations or provide chronic disease management, prenatal care, vaccinations, or prescription renewals. For life-threatening emergencies, such as intense shortness of breath or chest pain, patients are directed to contact SAMU or visit a UPA.
