Porto Velho police arrest man suspected of killing and burying woman

A 37-year-old man, identified as Ismael Maia de Souza, was arrested in Porto Velho, Rondônia, on suspicion of killing his partner, 64-year-old Eliana Dias Limoeiro. The victim's body was discovered in a shallow grave within the yard of an apartment complex where the pair resided.

The investigation began after family members reported Eliana missing, having last seen her on Saturday night. A granddaughter of the victim reported hearing a dispute and noticing damage to the residence. According to police reports, a teenager informed officers that the suspect had mentioned the woman was buried in a nearby plot, leading neighbors and residents to locate the body.

While the suspect has denied the crime during police statements, the Civil Police are investigating the case as femicide and concealment of a corpse. Authorities are seeking to convert his arrest in flagrante to preventive detention as investigations continue.
