Novamed invests R$ 300 million to expand Manaus pharmaceutical plant
Novamed, a subsidiary of Grupo EMS, is investing R$ 300 million to expand its manufacturing plant and establish a Research, Development, and Innovation (PD&I) center in the Manaus Industrial Pole. The expansion aims to increase production capacity to 2.5 billion tablets per month.
Of the total investment, R$ 27.5 million is being financed by BNDES through the BNDES Mais Inovação program. These funds will support the construction of a pilot plant and the expansion of the unit's analytical laboratory to facilitate the development of new solid medications.
Health Minister Alexandre Padilha visited the facility, highlighting the importance of nationalizing the production of GLP-1 analog medications, such as semaglutide and liraglutide. He noted that domestic production is already three times cheaper than imports, increasing accessibility for the Brazilian population and the Unified Health System (SUS).
