Porto Velho secures school places for children in Vista Alegre do Abunã

The Porto Velho City Hall has secured school placements for 70 children in the Vista Alegre do Abunã district through the ‘Mais Educação Infantil’ program. Managed by the Municipal Secretariat of Education (Semed), the initiative utilizes the Escola Arca de Noé, a private institution accredited by the municipality, to accommodate students who were unable to find spots in the public school system.

The action follows an active search conducted by Semed, which identified 115 children in the district who were not enrolled in the school system. This finding highlighted a critical need to expand educational services in the Ponta do Abunã region. The ‘Mais Educação Infantil’ program, established by Complementary Law No. 936 in March 2023, allows for the expansion of free vacancies in registered private schools to ensure children gain access to early childhood education.

Mayor Léo Moraes stated that increasing access to early education aims to provide stability for families and invest in child learning and social inclusion. The municipal government is also planning to construct two new municipal school units in the district by 2028. A new registration period for families seeking vacancies is expected to open in November via a digital link.
