Portofino International Opera Competition crowns Chinese bass BaoPeng Wang
The 12th edition of the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino (CLIP) concluded with a prize ceremony in the Ligurian village of Portofino. About 50 young singers, selected from 302 applicants representing 57 countries, performed during a week‑long event promoted by the Associazione Musicale Giovanni Bottesini.
The final concert featured the ten finalists accompanied by the Orchestra of Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa under the direction of Maestro Marco Alibrando. The first prize was awarded to Chinese bass BaoPeng Wang, with German soprano Charlotte Langner taking second place and Georgian contralto Medeia Chikashvili and Russian soprano Valentina Pravdina sharing the third‑place honor. Portofino’s mayor Matteo Viacava and artistic director Francesco Daniel Donati highlighted the competition’s role in strengthening the town’s cultural identity and supporting emerging opera talent.
