Portofino to invest €320,000 in road refuge for luxury SUV access

The municipality of Portofino has approved a project to invest over €320,000 to address traffic issues on Via San Sebastiano. The narrow rural road, which connects the village to exclusive coastal villas, is currently too constricted to allow two large SUVs to pass each other from opposite directions.

The proposed solution involves creating a passing refuge area near Villa Grande rather than widening the entire road. This intervention aims to facilitate movement for residents without violating the environmental and urban planning constraints of the surrounding natural park.

Via San Sebastiano serves as a private access route for high-profile residents, including Pier Silvio Berlusconi, Vittorio Malacalza, and Marco Tronchetti Provera. Access to the road is restricted to local residents, while other visitors must proceed on foot.
