Portonovo environmentalists warn against campsite reopening

Environmental associations are expressing significant concern regarding the planned reopening of the ‘Il Conero’ campsite in the Contadino area of Portonovo. The facility is reported to potentially accommodate up to 516 guests across 104 pitches, along with numerous parking spaces.

Critics argue that the reopening must be evaluated within a comprehensive, transparent planning framework rather than as an isolated event. They emphasize that Portonovo is a fragile ecosystem located within the Conero Regional Park and protected by the European Natura 2000 network.

Concerns include the cumulative impact of increased human pressure, such as traffic congestion, beach overcrowding, coastal erosion, and boat pressure. Current issues include parking saturation, irregular parking in vegetated areas, safety risks, and increased fire hazards during the summer months.
