Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach report record cargo volumes

The twin ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have experienced significant surges in cargo movement, driven by resilient consumer demand and early holiday shipments. In July, the combined ports processed nearly 1.89 million TEUs, marking the third busiest month ever for the pair and the most prolific month of the year.

Following this momentum, the Port of Los Angeles reported its busiest three-month period in history during the summer of 2026. Between June and August, the port processed more than 2.9 million TEUs. August volume alone was 955,907 TEUs, which was 6% above the port’s five-year average for the month.

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka attributed the strength to a broad mix of cargo and early seasonal stocking. Retailers appear to be moving goods earlier in the year to navigate evolving trade environments and tariffs. Despite economic pressures such as fuel costs and tariffs, industry leaders remain optimistic about the upcoming holiday shopping season.
