Portugal advances housing upgrades in Covilhã and Médio Tejo

The municipality of Covilhã handed over keys to 37 renovated homes under the 1.º Direito program, part of the local housing strategy funded by the EU Recovery and Resilience Plan. The investment for these homes totals €1.27 million and will benefit 72 residents, bringing the project to 112 of the 117 planned dwellings and reaching roughly 85% completion.

The Médio Tejo intermunicipal community received an additional €10.1 million from the EU‑backed Centro 2030 fund, primarily earmarked for social and affordable housing. This raises the region’s total allocation to €131.76 million, with a small portion redirected to civil‑protection projects. The funding shift reflects new EU priorities emphasizing housing over urban regeneration.
