Portugal allocates €1.8 million to 71 arts projects and indexes support to inflation

The Portuguese Directorate‑General for the Arts (DGArtes) announced funding for 71 artistic programming projects, mainly music, with a total budget of €1.8 million. The projects, running from September 2023 to February 2028, include 47 music programmes, 12 theatre, six dance, four street arts and two circus initiatives. Regional distribution covers the Centre (21), North (17), Greater Lisbon (14), Oeste & Vale do Tejo (5), Algarve (4), Alentejo (3), the Azores (3), Setúbal Peninsula (2) and Madeira (2).

In the same week, the Portuguese government approved a decree‑law that links future arts subsidies to inflation, introducing an annual update factor of up to 2% and a €450,000 cap on cumulative support per entity. The decree expands eligible areas to digital arts, comics and archives, and will affect roughly €7 million in renewed quadriennial grants for 125 of the 135 entities that received support in the 2023‑2026 cycle.
