Portugal allocates €700,000 to support 63 philharmonic band projects
The Portuguese Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has announced a new complementary funding line through the General Directorate of the Arts (DGARTES) to support 63 philharmonic band projects across the country. The total allocation of €700,000 is provided by DGARTES and the Cultural Promotion Fund.
The funding targets projects involving creation, training, qualification, national and international circulation, programming, archiving, and documentation. All supported projects must be completed by December 31, 2027. Geographically, the distribution includes 23 projects in the Center, 19 in the North, seven in the West and Tagus Valley, five in Alentejo, and one in the Algarve. The Greater Lisbon area, Azores, Madeira, and the Setúbal Peninsula each have two selected projects.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Margarida Balseiro Lopes stated that the initiative aims to value structures deeply connected to communities and musical training. The support is intended to strengthen artistic and organizational skills, stimulate contemporary creation, and preserve musical heritage through the availability of scores, manuscripts, and audiovisual records.
