Portugal and China sign academic cooperation agreements
Portugal and China have established new agreements to enhance academic and scientific exchange. A bilateral agreement aims to implement mutual recognition of higher education degrees and diplomas starting in 2027, replacing a previous 2005 accord. Key priorities for China include university dialogue, joint engineering training, and artificial intelligence-supported cooperation. Portugal emphasized advanced training, academic mobility, talent development, and linguistic and cultural cooperation.
Additionally, the University of Évora has signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with City University of Macau and Soochow University. This initiative, part of an official visit by the Portuguese Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation to China, focuses on scientific partnerships and the development of a China-Portugal Joint Laboratory. This laboratory project, aligned with the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, is oriented toward the science of cultural heritage conservation.
