Portugal and US strengthen economic ties and launch business forum

Portugal and the United States are strengthening their economic and commercial ties through enhanced cooperation in strategic sectors, including energy, technology, defense, aerospace, and tourism. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted Portugal’s potential as a gateway for American technology companies into the European market, citing its geographic location, critical mineral reserves, and large-scale data centers.

To facilitate this growth, the two nations are launching the CEO Forum Portugal – United States. This business platform, held in Lisbon alongside the Web Summit, aims to foster dialogue between government and business leaders to identify new investment opportunities. In the past year, US businesses have invested over $20 billion in Portugal, while Portuguese investment in the US exceeded $2 billion.

Portuguese Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel emphasized that this cooperation is vital for transatlantic prosperity and economic resilience. The initiative follows commitments made during the 52nd Permanent Bilateral Commission held in Lisbon earlier this year.
