Portugal announces creation of University of Bragança and the North Interior

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has announced the creation of the University of Bragança and the North Interior. This new institution will be formed through the transformation of the current Polytechnic University of Bragança.

The announcement, made during the 22nd edition of the PSD Summer University in Castelo de Vide, is part of a government strategy to strengthen higher education and the country’s scientific and innovation capacity. Orlando Rodrigues, rector of the Polytechnic University of Bragança, expressed enthusiasm for the decision, noting that the institution had submitted its transformation dossier in February.

Local leaders, including the Intermunicipal Community of Terras de Trás-os-Montes, have welcomed the move, viewing it as a vital investment for regional development. The new university is expected to serve as a center for knowledge, innovation, and technology, fostering a stronger link between the institution and the regional economy.
