Portugal announces fuel aid for firefighters and energy auction delay
Portugal's Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, has announced that the government will repeat fuel subsidies for firefighters. This national measure aims to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs on humanitarian firefighting associations, following warnings from firefighter federations in the Lisbon and Setúbal districts.
Additionally, the Minister announced a delay in the auction for 1,050 megavolt-ampere (MVA) of electrical grid connection capacity for energy storage projects. The auction, which was originally scheduled to launch recently, has been postponed for approximately three to four weeks to allow for the analysis of 62 different contributions received during the process. The capacity includes 750 MVA for autonomous storage and 300 MVA for renewable power plants with associated storage.
