Portugal appoints Nuno Brito to lead defense investment commission
The Portuguese Government has appointed career diplomat Nuno Filipe Alves Salvador e Brito to preside over the Commission for the Monitoring of Defense Investments (CAID). The commission was established to oversee, monitor, and provide recommendations regarding the execution of national defense investments and the European Security Action Instrument (SAFE).
Portugal is significantly increasing its defense spending, including the application of funds from European SAFE loans, which total approximately 5.8 billion euros. The commission will include representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Economy and Territorial Cohesion, and National Defense, as well as representatives from the three largest parliamentary groups: PSD, Chega, and PS.
