Portugal approves €250,000 emergency aid for associations in Venezuela

The Portuguese Government has approved 250,000 euros in extraordinary emergency aid for Portuguese social associations located in Venezuela. This funding is a response to the double earthquake that struck the country on June 24, which resulted in the deaths of 138 Portuguese citizens, 118 of whom also held Venezuelan nationality.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the aid is intended for associations within the consular area of Caracas that have significantly increased their support activities for the Portuguese and Lusophone descendant communities following the seismic events. The funds aim to strengthen the response capacity of these institutions, particularly for those assisting vulnerable citizens.

The non-reimbursable support is limited to one project per association and is designated for the purchase of essential goods, reinforcement of logistical and operational capacities, and other urgent expenses directly related to the social emergency. To qualify, associations must be legally constituted, operational at the time of the earthquakes, and accredited with the Directorate-General for Consular Affairs and Portuguese Communities. Applications must be submitted to the Consulate-General of Portugal in Caracas within 60 days of the regulation's publication.
