Portugal approves funding for Beja hospital expansion

The Portuguese government has authorized the Baixo Alentejo Local Health Unit (ULSBA) to undertake a multi-year expenditure of approximately 4.6 million euros for the requalification and expansion of the Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes in Beja.

This funding allows for the launch of an international tender to develop the architectural and execution projects for the hospital. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) described the project as one of the largest investments in the region, noting that the extensive remodeling aims to provide a modernized public hospital facility.

While the current phase focuses on project design, previous estimates from August 2024 suggested the total cost for the full requalification and expansion could reach 118 million euros, with construction potentially beginning in the second half of 2026.
