Portugal average monthly salary rises to €1,835

The average gross monthly remuneration for workers in Portugal rose by 5.1% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, reaching €1,835, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).

While nominal wages increased, the pace of growth slowed slightly from the 5.4% recorded in the first quarter. When adjusted for an inflation rate of 3.3%, the real gain in average worker income was 1.8%. Regular remuneration, which excludes seasonal bonuses, rose to €1,436, while base pay reached €1,342.

Significant disparities exist across economic sectors. The agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector reported the lowest average wage at €1,180, while the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply sector reported the highest at approximately €3,986. The agricultural sector saw the highest year-on-year increase at 8.8%, whereas the energy sector saw a nominal variation of only 0.4%.
