Portugal basketball defeats Egypt 91-87 in World Cup qualifier preparation
The Portuguese national basketball team defeated Egypt 91-87 in a closed-door friendly match held at the Complex Istanbul in Turkey. The game served as the first of two preparation matches ahead of the second phase of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
Portugal controlled much of the early game, leading 26-18 in the first quarter and 48-43 at halftime. However, Egypt staged a comeback in the third period, outscoring Portugal 28-17 to take a 71-65 lead with ten minutes remaining. Portugal responded strongly in the final quarter, outscoring Egypt 26-16 to secure the victory.
Rúben Prey led the Portuguese scoring with 19 points and nine rebounds. Other notable contributors included Francisco Amarante with 14 points and Rafael Lisboa with 12 points. Neemias Queta, the Boston Celtics center, recorded eight points and seven rebounds in approximately 17 minutes of play. Egypt was led by Taha Mohamed with 18 points and four assists.
