Portugal coach Jorge Jesus confirms Cristiano Ronaldo stays in national squad
Jorge Jesus, newly appointed head coach of Portugal's national football team, signed a four‑year contract that will see him lead the side through the 2026 World Cup and up to the 2030 tournament. He stated that Cristiano Ronaldo will continue to be selected for the squad as long as the 41‑year‑old remains physically fit and able to contribute, describing the striker as a "symbol of Portuguese football" and emphasizing his leadership both on and off the pitch.
Jesus, who previously worked with Ronaldo at Saudi club Al‑Nassr, said there are no issues between them and that he enjoyed their collaboration. He also noted that former coach Roberto Martínez was dismissed after Portugal's early exit at the 2026 World Cup, underscoring the new direction under Jesus.
