Portugal conducts tax inspections on beach concessions

The Portuguese Ministry of Finance has launched the ‘Mar à Vista’ operation, a joint tax inspection and awareness campaign conducted alongside the Maritime Police. Running from late July through September, the initiative targets economic operators managing beach concessions across several districts, including Aveiro, Beja, Coimbra, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Setúbal, and Viana do Castelo.

Tax inspectors have identified various infractions, specifically regarding the failure to issue invoices and the use of billing software that does not meet legal requirements. The operation aims to promote voluntary fiscal compliance, ensure fair competition among economic agents, and reinforce fiscal justice. To date, the Tax and Customs Authority has deployed 63 inspectors to work in coordination with 58 Maritime Police officers.
