Portugal D7 visa income requirements updated for 2026

Portugal’s D7 visa, designed for non-EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens with regular passive income, is seeing renewed interest due to updated financial requirements. The visa allows individuals to reside in Portugal without participating in the local active workforce, provided they can demonstrate sufficient means of subsistence.

Eligible income sources include pensions, real estate rental income, dividends, interest, bonds, and royalties. For 2026, the minimum monthly income requirement for a single primary applicant is set at 920 euros, based on the Portuguese minimum wage. Additional requirements apply for dependents: a spouse requires 50% of the minimum wage (460 euros), and each child requires 30% (276 euros).

While the D7 visa facilitates residency in Portugal, it does not grant automatic EU citizenship or unlimited settlement rights across all EU countries. Furthermore, the visa is primarily based on passive income; those wishing to engage in active employment or start a business in Portugal may need to apply for different residency categories under AIMA regulations.
