Water reservoir levels reach 100% in Curitiba and 77% in Portugal

Water reservoir levels show varying trends across Portugal and Brazil. In Portugal, the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) reports that dams currently hold an average of 77% water capacity. This status contrasts with drought trends seen in other parts of the European Union, a situation attributed to significant rainfall and storms during the previous winter.

In Brazil, recent heavy rains have caused reservoirs in the Greater Curitiba region to reach 100% capacity. The four main reservoirs managed by Sanepar—Piraquara 1 and 2, Iraí, and Passaúna—have seen levels rise from approximately 90% to full capacity within two weeks.

Other regional developments include the delivery of state machinery to several Minho municipalities in Portugal, such as Vila Verde, to aid in forest management and fire prevention. Additionally, the government of Paraná, Brazil, has announced a 25% reduction in minimum water and sewage tariffs for approximately 2 million residences, effective October 1st.
