Spain women's field hockey finishes 7th in World Cup
In international sports, the Spanish women’s field hockey team, known as the ‘Redsticks’, secured seventh place at the 2026 World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands. After a 1-1 draw against China during regulation time, Spain won the match 2-1 via a penalty shoot-out. Lucía Jiménez scored the decisive penalty, while goalkeeper Clara Pérez made six crucial saves during the shoot-out.
In women’s volleyball, the Portuguese national team made history by qualifying for the round of 16 at the European Championship after a 3-2 victory over Romania. Portugal finished fourth in Group C and will proceed to compete in Turkey.
Conversely, the Spanish women’s volleyball team faces elimination from the European Championship after a 1-3 loss to Portugal, leaving them at the bottom of Group C. Meanwhile, the Peruvian women’s volleyball team concluded their Copa Salta tour in Argentina without a victory, losing all three friendly matches 3-0 to Argentina. Former player Vivian Baella expressed concern regarding the team’s performance ahead of the upcoming South American Championship.
