Portugal denies claims of reparations negotiations to former colonies

The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied claims regarding negotiations for reparations to former colonies. This follows statements by Chega leader André Ventura, who suggested that Portugal had accepted participation in discussions alongside other European nations regarding such payments. The Ministry clarified that the information is false, stating that Portugal has not accepted, negotiated, or assumed any commitment to such reparations, noting that the European Union has maintained a position of abstention on the matter.

Separately, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro addressed the government's housing policies during a ceremony for the conversion of a former Council of Ministers building into affordable housing in Lisbon. The project, involving a 20 million euro investment, aims to provide 90 homes for teachers, police officers, and health technicians. Despite opposition from the PS and Chega parties regarding urban rental regime reforms, Montenegro asserted that the government will maintain its course to influence the housing market and reach a goal of 40,000 constructed homes.
