Portugal detains arson suspect after Bragança fire as Loulé wildfire kept under control
In the northern city of Bragança, police detained a 24‑year‑old man suspected of deliberately setting fire to a residential building. The blaze forced the evacuation of the building and adjacent homes. Investigators preserved evidence on site and the suspect was transferred to judicial authorities for further processing.
In the Algarve municipality of Loulé, a wildfire that erupted in the parish of Ameixial was declared dominated early on Tuesday. Civil Protection kept a substantial deployment of 360 personnel, 128 technical resources and two aerial units on standby to address any re‑ignitions. One firefighter required assistance and four others sustained minor injuries. The fire damaged an uninhabited structure and prompted the temporary closure of the EN2 road, but no major casualties were reported.
