Portugal digital infrastructure could attract 10 billion euros

Portugal is positioned to become a major global digital hub due to its strategic Atlantic geography. By the end of 2026, approximately 20 subsea cables are expected to be connected to the country's coasts, linking it directly to the Americas, Africa, and various European points.

While direct investment in this infrastructure is valued at roughly 200 million euros, a study by AmCham Portugal and PwC suggests the connectivity could attract over 10.3 billion euros in technological and digital investments. This growth is expected to benefit sectors such as data centers, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Notable projects include Google’s Nuvem, which establishes a direct link between Portugal and the United States, and the upcoming Sol system intended to connect Florida to Spain via the Azores.
