Brazil GDP grows 0.5% in second quarter of 2026
Brazil's economy grew by 0.5% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the first quarter, according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This growth brings the total GDP to R$ 3.4 trillion for the period. On an annual basis, the GDP increased by 2% compared to the second quarter of 2025.
The agricultural sector was the primary driver of this expansion, growing 2.8% during the quarter. Notable performance in crops such as coffee (up 15.1%) and soy (up 5.3%) contributed to this result. In contrast, the services sector saw a modest increase of 0.2%, and the industrial sector remained relatively stable with a 0.1% rise.
Economic growth has slowed compared to the first quarter, which saw an expansion of 1.1%. Factors contributing to the deceleration include a 0.4% decrease in household consumption, high interest rates, and significant debt levels among families. Despite the slowdown, Brazil's quarterly growth ranked fifth highest among 50 countries surveyed by Austin Rating, outperforming major economies including the United States and China.
