Portugal etiquette debate follows interaction with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa

A debate regarding social etiquette and manners has emerged following a video shared by Luciana Abreu, which shows her daughters interacting with former Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

During the encounter, one of the children addressed the former Head of State using informal language, asking, ‘Is it you? (...) Seriously, is it you? (...) It doesn't look like it! (...) Give me a hug’. Commentator Carolina Ortigão criticized the interaction, arguing that the use of ‘você’ (you) is too intimate for addressing an elder and a former President, suggesting a lack of proper formal education in courtesy.

In response, actress Sara Norte defended the children, noting their young age and suggesting that such informal approaches are understandable for minors.
