Portugal Expands dstelecom Fiber Optic Network to Four Municipalities
The telecom operator dstelecom announced a new rollout of fiber‑optic broadband in four localities of Portugal, targeting roughly 1,000 new residences in the municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto. The project includes first‑time installations in Gondiães and Vilar de Cunhas, an upgrade of existing service in Cavez, and a capacity boost for Cabeceiras de Basto itself. Upon completion, municipal coverage is expected to reach 96% of its territory, covering over 10,000 addresses.
dstelecom executive Ricardo Salgado said the expansion will create new opportunities for families and institutions, while Mayor Manuel Teixeira highlighted the direct impact on local business parks. The rollout is part of a broader national strategy, backed by government support, that aims to close the digital divide between urban centers and interior regions of the country.
