Portugal expands professional wine and Port service training

Various wine education and service training programs are being launched across Portugal to enhance professional expertise in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

Plansel International Wine School will host WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Level 1 and 2 training sessions at the Hotel Vila Vita Parc in Algarve from November 12 to 15, 2026. Led by sommelier Pedro Ramos, these English-language courses offer international certification in wines, spirits, and sake, targeting professionals and enthusiasts through a combination of theory and sensory practice.

Additionally, the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto (IVDP) is conducting its free ‘Saber Servir, Vender Melhor’ program from October to mid-December 2026. Spanning regions from Minho to Algarve, the initiative aims to train hospitality professionals in the correct service and recommendation of Port wine. The program includes theoretical history and production lessons alongside practical tasting and food pairing sessions.
