Portugal expands sheep compensation for blue‑tongue disease
The Portuguese government approved an amendment to the support scheme for farms that lost sheep to the blue‑tongue disease. The change makes the €48 non‑reimbursable payment per dead ovine available to producers who were unable to vaccinate their flocks before the outbreak because of vaccine shortages, provided they completed vaccination by 30 November 2025 and recorded the actions in the PISA system.
The aid covers deaths recorded between 1 June 2025 and 16 January 2026 and is funded from a €500,000 budget. The Directorate‑General for Food and Veterinary Affairs (DGAV) will update the list of eligible farms on its portal, after which farmers will have 30 days to submit any complaints.
