Portugal faces political scrutiny over BioAdvance biofuel plant licensing

Portugal's parliament members from the Left Bloc, Livre and PAN questioned the government about the public consultation for the Single Environmental Licensing of the BioAdvance biofuel plant. They highlighted ongoing investigations, a sealed‑court inquiry, and pending administrative and criminal probes into the plant's operation.

Deputies asked how the government can proceed with licensing while investigations are active, and demanded guarantees for residents of Vila Verde and Figueira da Foz. They also pressed for the dismantling of the unit, as was done with the Guia facility. The Environment and Energy Minister's office confirmed that agencies IGAMAOT, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, DIAP and the CCDR‑Centro are examining possible administrative, regulatory and criminal liability.
