FC Porto launches new season as former futsal star Amílcar Gomes retires

Amílcar Gomes, a Portuguese futsal veteran with 33 years of experience, announced his retirement after a career that included 48 matches and 33 goals for FC Famalicão and ten caps for the national team. He said, “Hoje encerro um capítulo muito importante da minha vida.”

FC Porto held its season presentation at Estádio do Dragão, featuring a friendly against Aston Villa and the anticipated debut of South Korean midfielder Inbeom Hwang. Goalkeeper‑captain Diogo Costa kept his number 99 shirt despite a challenge to change it.

Meanwhile, Benfica’s under‑16 side began pre‑season under former senior player Andreas Samaris, who claimed the academy is “among the three best formations in the world” and outlined goals to develop players for the senior squad.
