Portugal football team launches cancer‑fight bracelet honoring Diogo Jota

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro presented a special bracelet to the Portugal national football team in São Bento. The bracelet, bearing the national colours and the names of the 27 players selected by Roberto Martínez for the 2026 World Cup – including the late Diogo Jota – will be worn by the squad during the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada (11 June‑19 July).

The initiative, organized by the FPF Foundation together with Mission Continente and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, will also see exact replicas sold in Continente stores for €1 each. Half of each sale (€0.50) is earmarked for the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro, the national cancer‑fight league. The project was proposed by the Prime Minister as a way for fans to symbolically support the team while contributing to cancer research and support.

Diogo Jota, 28, a Liverpool striker, died in a road accident in Spain on 3 July 2025. The charitable bracelet serves as a tribute to his memory and a resource for the ongoing fight against cancer in Portugal.
