Portugal fuel prices set to fall sharply as Brent oil steadies

The Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP) highlighted that despite Brent crude oil returning to $79 per barrel – the same level recorded on 2 March – Portuguese motorists continued to pay higher fuel prices, with gasoline rising from €1.71 to €2.15 per litre and diesel from €1.63 to €2.06 per litre between March and August. The comparison sparked debate over how quickly international oil price movements are reflected at the pump.

The Directorate‑General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) announced that it will adjust fuel tariffs next week, expecting a sharp drop in both diesel and petrol prices. Analysts see the price cut as a possible signal of reduced crude‑oil demand, which could temper market expectations of new all‑time highs for Brent.

The upcoming price reduction is being closely watched by market participants, as it may influence broader perceptions of oil demand and price trajectories.
