Portugal funds €500 million radio reconstruction and plans maritime links to Setúbal beaches

The Portuguese government approved a €500 million programme to rebuild transmission and retransmission equipment for local and regional radio stations damaged by the severe storms early this year. The funding is part of the Portugal Transformation, Recovery and Resilience (PTRR) plan and aims to restore radio services in areas that suffered “information deserts” during the weather crisis.

In the municipality of Setúbal, officials announced a plan to introduce marine transport to the Arrábida beaches by 2027. The service would use the same fare structure as the existing Navegante public‑transport pass and is intended to ease road traffic after storm‑induced road closures and safety restrictions. The council is engaging private operators, and the project will require new docking infrastructure. It is linked to a broader €50 million request for repairs to coastal slopes and a 2,000‑ton rock mass threatened by collapse, including a €6.9 million stabilisation work at Albarquel beach.
