Portugal GNR detains 20-year-old for vehicle theft and document fraud

The Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) arrested a 20‑year‑old suspect in Caldas da Rainha after a two‑month investigation into a string of vehicle thefts and document falsification. The crimes spanned the municipalities of Caldas da Rainha, Alcobaça, Montijo and Batalha, targeting workshops and automobile stands.

During the operation the GNR conducted seven reconstructions and searches in Vila Franca de Xira, Caldas da Rainha and Alcobaça, recovering two stolen vehicles bearing false licence plates, four fake plates, nine keys, eight vehicle documents, four rims and assorted gold items. The suspect was presented to a court in Marinha Grande and ordered into preventive detention. The police continue to investigate possible accomplices and to clarify the full extent of the offences.
