Portugal government evaluates funding for Tomar wastewater plant upgrades

The Portuguese government has acknowledged the need to requalify the Ceiça and Alto Nabão wastewater treatment plants (ETAR) in Tomar, though a final decision regarding financing has not yet been reached. The estimated investment for these works is approximately 20 million euros.

Minister of Environment and Energy Maria da Graça Carvalho stated that the ministry is evaluating available funds within the Sustainable 2030 Program, which is financed by the Cohesion Fund. She noted the urgency of the interventions due to their impact on the water quality of the Nabão River. The Minister also highlighted a broader national issue, noting that many sanitation infrastructures across Portugal are reaching the end of their useful life and require significant investment for replacement or repair.
