Portugal government launches official WhatsApp channel

The Portuguese government has launched an official WhatsApp channel to disseminate information regarding government activities and public interest updates. This initiative is part of a broader renewal of the executive's web portal designed to facilitate easier access to information.

The new tool allows citizens to receive direct communications, including updates on ministerial activities and public alerts such as extreme temperature warnings. The channel has already begun sharing highlights of government actions and messages previously posted by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro on social media.

In addition to WhatsApp, the updated government portal will feature live broadcasts of the Prime Minister's interventions and briefings following Council of Ministers meetings. The portal will also centralize public utility alerts concerning weather, road traffic, and public consultations. Users can also subscribe to receive official updates via email.
