Portugal healthcare: 72% of citizens concerned about waiting times

A health barometer conducted by Médis, a brand of Ageas Portugal, reveals that 72% of Portuguese citizens are concerned about waiting times for medical consultations and treatments. The study, carried out by Boutique Research through 1,200 interviews, also indicates that 50% of respondents face difficulties navigating the National Health Service (SNS).

While the SNS remains the primary choice for 56% of those facing serious illnesses or emergencies, the private sector sees higher usage for specialist consultations and exams. The research highlights a disparity in health monitoring habits based on insurance coverage, with approximately 70% of individuals holding health insurance reporting that they undergo regular check-ups. Other significant concerns identified include oncological diseases and the financial costs associated with healthcare.
