Portugal hosts various film festivals including Doclisboa and Cine Atlântico

Portugal is hosting several significant film festivals and cultural showcases this October. In Lisbon, the 24th edition of Doclisboa has commenced, featuring 198 films from 51 countries. The documentary festival includes 34 world premieres and covers diverse themes such as politics, memory, and pop culture, with notable figures like Juliette Binoche and Kate Bush featured in the programming.

The French Film Festival (Festa do Cinema Francês) is also active across various locations, including Coimbra and Faro. In Faro, the program includes works such as ‘A Comédia Francesa’ and the award-winning documentary ‘O Canto das Florestas’. In Coimbra, the festival offers a selection of comedies and dramas.

In the Azores, the 11th edition of the Cine Atlântico film showcase is taking place in Angra do Heroísmo. This edition pays tribute to the late director Paulo Rocha, a foundational figure in new Portuguese cinema, while also presenting contemporary Portuguese films that explore new cinematic languages.
