Portugal hosts free concerts in historic venues this July

The Benedictine monastery of São Romão de Neiva in Viana do Castelo will host two free concerts over the weekend. On Friday, 24 July at 21:30, the ensemble Cuore Armonico will perform a program of Iberian works ranging from the medieval to the Baroque, celebrating the historic link between Viana do Castelo and Santiago de Compostela. On Sunday, 26 July at 18:00, two choirs – Coro Ars Vocalis from Esposende and Cor Jove Amics de la Unió de Barcelona – will join for a joint concert, marking the culmination of a collaborative artistic project.

In Vila Viçosa, the Fundação da Casa de Bragança will stage an outdoor concert titled “Dois Instrumentos, Um Som” on 31 July at 21:00 in the gardens of the Paço Ducal. The program features António Eustáquio on the Portuguese‑made guitolão and Carlos Barretto on double bass, exploring a dialogue between the two instruments that blends ethno‑jazz influences with original improvisations. Earlier that afternoon, a public lecture on D. Maria II will be given at the Paço Ducal as part of the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Portugal's Constitutional Charter.
