Portugal hosts major Brazilian and Portuguese musical celebrations
Portugal is hosting several major cultural events focused on Brazilian and Portuguese musical heritage. The Instituto Pernambuco-Porto Brasil will celebrate Brazilian Popular Music Day (MPB) on October 17 and 18 with a two-day program featuring music, cinema, and workshops. The initiative aims to highlight the cultural ties between Portugal and Brazil, featuring artists such as Almério, Gilmar Bola 8, and Sérgio Godinho.
In Lisbon, prominent Brazilian musicians are scheduled to perform. Gilberto Gil will present his “Amor Azul” show at the Coliseu dos Recreios, an ambitious production blending Brazilian popular music with European classical traditions. Additionally, Djavan will perform at the MEO Arena, celebrating 50 years of his career with the “Djavanear 50 anos, Só Sucessos” concert.
In Porto, the Coliseu Porto will commemorate the 25th anniversary of Porto 2001 (European Capital of Culture) on November 6. The event, titled “Canções de Granito,” will feature artists Pedro Abrunhosa, GNR, Três Tristes Tigres, and Pedro Burmester, who will each perform songs associated with the city's musical identity.
